In a captivating final journey of the IPL 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders took all the accolades as the Shreyas Iyer-led side clinched their third IPL trophy, the first in a decade. The result follows their unison team performance throughout the season and echoing the same thought, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu took an indirect dig at RCB icon Virat Kohli, who ended up without the champion tag, despite winning the Orang Cap.
Rayudu has been critical of Virat Kohli and RCB since Chennai Super Kings’ heartbreaking defeat to the Faf du Plessis’ side in a make-or-break game. The former RCB skipper displayed belligerent celebration throughout the match which fueled a disruptive spat from Rayudu, criticising his celebration and RCB management for not winning the trophy even once.
On Sunday, following Shah Rukh Khan’s side's dominating title win run, Rayudu didn’t hold back to take a shot on Kohli and RCB again. Praising the team effort by KKR, he said, “KKR team, they really stand up with the stalwarts like Narine, Russell, and Starc, and also contribute their share in the team’s win, and that’s how the teams win the IPL and we have seen over the years, it’s not the orange cap that wins you the IPL, but it’s the contributions, 300 runs each or 400 runs each.
Virat Kohli was awarded the Orange Cap on Sunday after his breakthrough season with the Red and Blue franchise. He piled up 741 runs with five half-centuries and a century. However, they failed to go past the Eliminator, thus extending their trophy drought to one more year.
