Ottis Gibson, the former West Indies pacer, has joined defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as assistant coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The 55-year-old, who has been a highly accomplished coach during his career, will be a part of KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit’s support staff, which also includes the likes of bowling coach Bharat Arun, mentor Dwayne Bravo, and spin bowling coach Carl Crowe.
After his playing days came to a close, Ottis Gibson has been a bowling coach for England on two separate occasions apart from serving South Africa as the head coach from 2017 to 2019. His biggest claim to fame during the coaching career came when he was the head coach of the West Indies cricket team, which went on to win the T20 World Cup in 2012.

The former West Indies cricketer has also been a part of the coaching set up of the Bangladesh cricket team and Yorkshire county cricket club, in addition to being in T20 franchise teams. In their latest post on their official X account, KKR welcomed their assistant coach Ottis Gibson before stating that he is going to be joining their strong support staff prior to naming the rest of them.
Moreover, KKR are set to defend their title in the IPL 2025 as the opening match of the tournament will involve them facing up against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, on March 22. Their newly appointed captain Ajinkya Rahane, who has tons of experience in leading cricket teams across formats, will be looking to put his best foot forward in the new role with a win to start the new season in just under a couple of weeks time.
