On Tuesday, September 3, Bangladesh made history as they defeated Pakistan for the first-time ever in Test series, registering a clean sweep at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh inched closer to this historic win on fourth day of the second Test, which ended abruptly due to bad light, with their openers Shadman Islam and Zakir getting off to a brilliant start in pursuit of 185-run target. However, they final ousted the hosts, winning the game by six wickets.

Notably, this was the 15th Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, with the first one dating back to 2001. With their historic Test win against Pakistan, Bangladesh have now improved their record against them to 2-12, with one other match ending in a draw (2015).

Earlier in the second Test, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. The side restricted their Asian rivals to 274 in 85.1 overs, with half-centuries from Saim Ayub (58), Shan Masood (57) and Agha Salman (54). However, the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side were bundled out just 12 runs short of the first inning target, with Khurram Shahzad picking up a six-wicket haul, along with crucial wickets from Mir Hamza and Agha Salman.

In return, the hosts built on their 12-run lead and added 172 runs with key runs coming from the bat of Mohammad Rizwan (43) and Agha Salman (47). In response, Bangladesh, who had restricted the hosts to below 200 in the third innings, then went on to chase the 185-run target in the second session on the final day with six wickets in hand.

Notably with this win, Bangladesh registered their biggest moment in red-ball cricket, surpassing their 2-0 win in the West Indies in 2009.
