The Pakistan cricket team is likely to boycott sponsors' logos in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 due to delayed payment. The players are reportedly unhappy with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s delay in paying them on time. With the World Cup approaching, the players have refused to wear the corporate logos on their jerseys. Not only this but because of the delays by their side’s cricketing board, the young players are reportedly struggling financially.
As per the report by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan cricket team hasn’t received payment for their matches in the last four months. This has become a major reason for displeasure among the players. Cricket Pakistan also quoted a player as saying, "We are willing to represent Pakistan for free, but our question is why we should promote sponsors' logos that are affiliated with the board.”
The player added, “Similarly, we may decline to participate in promotional activities and other events. During the World Cup, we won't engage in ICC's commercial promotions and activities either.”
The report by the Pakistan media channel further stated that the players have asked the PCB to share the share of revenue that the cricketing board will get from the International Cricket Council (ICC) as well as the sponsors. The revenue is said to be around PKR 9.8 billion, which doesn’t include the revenue received from the sponsors and the bilateral series.
Speaking of the 50-over World Championship, India will host the tournament from October 5 at 10 venues across the nation.
