With the T20 World Cup 2024 set to be played in June in the USA and West Indies, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is discussing to field their best 15 for the marquee event. With the BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah confirming Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the side for the T20 World Cup , Rishabh Pant’s return to competitive cricket has also give some boost to the Indian team.
However, Pant remains to be the frontrunner for the wicketkeeper-batter role, his fitness will once again be assessed before the team’s departure for the World Cup 2024. Former India cricketer and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who is currently serving as the Director of Cricket Operations with the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), shared a big update on Rishabh Pant ’s participation in the T20 World Cup.
“Pant is ready to go for the World Cup and I am sure he will be picked in the team,” Ganguly said during an interaction.
Rohit and Virat should open for India in the World Cup: Sourav Ganguly
The former Indian skipper during his interaction also opined that Team India skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should open the inning for the side. According to Ganguly, Virat Kohli can score a 40-ball 100 and give a good start up the order.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should open for India in this year’s T20 World Cup. Virat can score 40 ball 100,” he was quoted by PTI. According to a report published by Dainik Jagran a few days ago, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to open the inning for India. If so happens, either of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will have to drop down the order.
