India’s top ranked badminton player, HS Prannoy continued his dominant form at the Paris Olympics 2024 as he defeated Vietnam’s Le Duc Phat to advance into the pre-quarterfinals of men’s singles event. The Indian shuttler defeated his Vietnamese opponent, World No. 70 ranked Le Duc Phat 16-21, 21-11, 21-12 in a battle which lasted for 62 minutes.
The Indian, who finished with a win in his final group match at the Summer Games, looked tried on his way to the win. While Le dominated the proceedings early in the game, the Indian groove in time to make it 15-16 after he trailed at one point 11-15. After the change of sides, Prannoy opened with a 4-0 lead, which his opponent narrowed down to 7-8, but the 32-year-old went on to break with some tight net shots.
Moving the game into a decider, HS Prannoy moved to 6-4 Le came back from behind to level the set 7-7. But the Indian then managed to grab 11-8 lead and stamped his authority taking the game 21-12. It is to be noted that the Indian shuttler defeated Germany’s Fabian Roth in the opening game to kickstart his campaign on a winning note.
The 32-year-old Indian shuttler will next take on compatriot, Lakshya Sen in the pre-quarterfinals in an all-India clash.
