India’s Swapnil Kusale clinched third medal for the country, which came as bronze in men’s 50m rifle 3-positions on Thursday, August 1 at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in Paris. The Indian got his hands on the bronze medal after scoring an aggregate of 451.4 points i n his rally of 44 shots at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The 28-year-old shot a total of 50.8 in the first series of kneeling position (9.6, 10.4, 10.3, 10.5 and 10.0), taking the sixth spot in the eight-man final. He followed it with a 50.9 in the second series with a score of 10.1, 9.9, 10.3, 10.5 and 10.1. Kusale continued to be at the sixth place after Series 3 of kneeling with another total of 51.6 (10.5, 10.4, 10.3, 10.2 and 10.2), adding to his aggregate of 153.3. He followed with scores of 52.7, 52.2 and 51.3 in the prone position to take the fifth spot in the leaderboard with an aggregate of 310.1.
After a seven-minute change over time, Kusale shot the score of 51.1 in Series 1 to jump a place to fourth position, his next series score of 50.4 helped him take the bronze medal position with an aggregate of 422.1. The 28-year-old shot a 9.4 to continue in third place with a total of 441.4 and finished with a 9.9 to end at third place.
The Indian shooter on Wednesday qualified for the final of 50m rifle 3 positions, finishing seventh in the qualification round. Kusale shot 198 (99, 99) in kneeling position, 197 (98, 99) in prone and 195 (98, 97) in standing position as top eight shooters in a field of 44 made it to the final round. He finished with an overall score of 590, which included 38x.
On the other hand, his compatriot, Aishwary Tomar ended at the 11th position to make an exit for the Summer Games. Tomar accumulated 589 (33x) with shots of 197 (98, 99) in kneeling position, 199 (100, 990) in prone and 193 (95, 98) in standing position.
