Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu failed to secure a medal in the Women’s 49kg weightlifting event at the Paris O lympics 2024 as she finished with a score of 199 and settled for the fourth spot. Chanu was India's only competitor in the weightlifting competition in the 2024 Summer Games and was touted as one of the biggest medal prospects at the event. The 29-year-old took home the Silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Mirabai Chanu started the  Women’s 49kg event with a successful 85 kg lift in her first attempt at the  Snatch. But unfortunately for the 29-year-old, she couldn't complete her second lift of 88 kg. Then with her third attempt, Chanu successfully lifted 88 kg and completed the Snatch category on a positive note.

In the Clean and Jerk,  Mirabai Chanu started with an attempt of 111 kg but missed it after a great snatch. The second attempt saw the 29-year-old once again go for the 111 kg limit and complete it successfully to go third in the overall rankings. But as she missed her third attempt, Chanu finished fourth and missed the medal for India.

The reigning Commonwealth Games champion qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 29-year-old, who finished third in Group B of the women’s 49kg division at the IWF World Cup, became the first and only weightlifter from the country to qualify for the Games.  Chanu finished in third place in Phuket, Thailand after a total lift of 184kg, which consisted of 81kg in the snatch and 103kg in the clean and jerk event.
