On Saturday, August 31, Rubina Francis won a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024 , bagging the fifth medal for India at the ongoing games. The 25-year-old, who finished in seventh place at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago, improved on her performances in Paris to secure a third place.
In the final of the women’s 10m pistol SH1 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024, Rubina Francis started off with a bang, scoring three 10 pointers, to find herself in the early lead. But then, in her next 19 attempts, the Indian shooter could only manage three 10 pointers, which meant that she had to settle for a bronze medal.
Rubina Francis accumulated 211.1 points in 22 attempts, while the silver medallist from Turkey, Aysel Ozgan, ended up with 231.1 points in 24 attempts. The gold medal went to Iranian Sareh Javanmardi, who scored 236.8 points in 24 attempts, to become Paralympic champion for a second time in the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event.
The bronze from Rubina Francis is already the fourth medal in shooting for India at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal won gold and bronze respectively in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event before Manish Narwal earned a silver medal in the 10m air pistol SH1 event in Paris yesterday.
