The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their positions in the PCB’s Selection Committee after the Babar Azam-led side’s dismal outing at the T20 World Cup 2024 in USA and Barbados. However, PCB hasn’t yet confirmed this development, it follows reports sent out by ESPNcricinfo and Cricbuzz.
Razzaq, who was appointed in the selection committee for both men and women’s just weeks ago, will no longer serve for the post and an official confirmation on the same is set to come out later this week, as said by ESPNcricinfo. Moreover, reports had earlier surfaced around Wahab Riaz’s position in jeopardy in the PCB with Pakistan’s group stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 after defeat against USA and India.
Moreover, the nature of selection committee is also likely to be reconstituted after reported discrepancies in many decisions taken by the committee. Furthermore, it is said that this decision follows feedback received from various members of the touring committee, including manager, coach Gary Kristen and even the captain, Babar Azam.
“The decision was taken following feedback from various stakeholders, including players and support staff, regarding the promotion and selection of certain players despite reservations from other members,” sources familiar with the developments said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The two former Pakistan cricketers, Riaz and Razzaq are currently featuring for Pakistan Champions in the ongoing World Championship of Legends, which is being played in Birmingham and Northampton. Pakistan Champions are the only team along with Australia Champions, who have qualified for the semifinals of the 2024 WCL.
