After England batter Dawid Malan suffered an injury in the Three Lions' last match against Sri Lanka in the Super 12 stage, Phil Salt is likely to get his maiden call up in England's playing XI as Malan's replacement for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal clash against India on November 10 at the Adelaide Oval.
The 35-year-old Dawid Malan pulled his groin injury while fielding against Sri Lanka in their last Super 12 Group 1 fixture and limped off the field. Later, the batter was ruled out for the clash against India on Thursday.
Phil Salt, 26, has played 11 T20I matches for England and has an average of 23.5, and the batter is expected to come at No.3 for his first T20 World Cup match against the Men in Blue in front of a packed Adelaide crowd.
England will announce the final squad for the semi-final clash against India soon, however, Salt is expected to replace injured Malan rather than adding an extra bowlers to the playing XI. England skipper Jos Buttler used seven bowlers in the victories against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the Super 12 stage and replacing Malan with an all-rounder like Chris Jordan or David Willey is unlikely.
Malan has represented England in 55 T20I matches and scored one century and 14 half centuries at an strike rate of 135.7 while Phil Salt's scored 235 runs in 11 matches at an strike rate of 164.3 with two half-centuries.
