On Tuesday, February 25, Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals Women defeated Gujarat Giants by six wickets in match number ten of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After Bharti Fulmali played a crucial unbeaten 40-run knock off 29 deliveries to help the Giants post 127 runs on the board, Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen stitched a crucial partnership with the latter playing an unbeaten 61-run knock to guide her side to victory.
For the unversed, Delhi skipper Meg lanning had earlier won the toss and elected to field first. While the DC Women bowlers did not let the Gujarat Giants top-order batters to stitch a decent partnerships, but later on Deandra Dottin added key 26 runs, along with Bharti Fulmali top-scoring for the side with her well-made unbeaten 40 off 29 balls.
Delhi Capitals Women go to the top of the points table with six-wicket win
For the Delhi side, Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland, all picked up two wickets each whereas Titas Sadhu and Jess Jonassen got a wicket apiece. Thereafter, during the run chase of 128, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma started with a positive intent, but the former’s stay was short lived.
Verma stitched a crucial stand with Jess Jonassen, but was dismissed after managing only 44 runs off 27 deliveries. The 32-year-old Australian all-rounder then played a match winnign knock of 61* runs with her innings being laced by nine fours and two maximums to help the Delhi-based franchise go to the top of the standings.
While the DC Women will next play Mumbai Indians Women on February 28 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Ashleigh Gardner-led GG will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women on Thursday, February 27.
