Karn Sharma turned out to be a match-winner with the ball as Mumbai Indians handed Delhi Capitals their first defeat of IPL 2025 in a dramatic way at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After Karun Nair scored a fiery 89 runs on his IPL comeback, Karn put MI back in the game by taking three crucial wickets as MI defeated DC by 12 runs to get their second win of the season after back-to-back defeats.

Batting first, MI got a good start as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton added 47 runs for the first wicket in five overs. Rohit got out after scoring 18(12) runs, while Rickelton scored 41 off 25 balls hitting five fours and two sixes. After that, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma put up a partnership of 60 runs for the third wicket. Suryakumar got out after scoring 40(28) runs while Tilak top scored with 59 runs off 33 balls hitting six four and three sixes. For DC, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam scalped a wicket each while Mukesh Kumar put one in his bag.

Karun Nair's 89-run knock goes vain as MI 

Chasing the winning target, DC lost their first on the very first ball of the innings as Deepak Chahar cleared Jake Fraser-McGurk’s stumps. After that, Karun Nair took charge of the innings on his IPL comeback and played a knock of 89 runs off 40 balls hitting 12 fours and five sixes. He added 119 runs for the second wicket with Abishek Porel who scored 33 off 25 balls. However, the match changed completely after Mitchell Santner dismissed Nair in the 12th over.

Apart from that, Karun Nair took big wickets of Abishek Porel, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs as MI were back in the game. He registered figures of 3/36 in his spell of four overs. After that, DC suffered three back-to-back runouts on the last three balls of the penultimate over as MI clinched a thrilling victory from the jaws of defeat.
