On Saturday, April 5, Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a comprehensive 25-run win against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 17 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. With a comprehensive win, Delhi Capitals not only claimed the top spot in the ten-team points table, but also registered their first win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in 15 years.

For the unversed, DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bat first. After the side lost Jake Fraser-McGurk for a five-ball duck, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul went upto score a fifty as he helped the side reach a decent score of 183/6 in 20 overs with his 51-ball 77.

During KL Rahul’s 51-ball stay in the middle, the Indian and DC wicketkeeper-batter joined the elite list, registering his 40th half-century as an opener. Rahul with his top-notch knock, joined Virat Kohli in the list of most half-centuries as an opener in the cash-rich league with 40 fifties at this moment.

While the Indian duo are tied at third place, former Australia cricketer David Warner tops the list with 60 half-centuries to his name, followed by Shikhar Dhawan, who has scored 49 fifties in the tournament.

On the back of a fighting 77-run knock from KL Rahul, LSG continued their dominating run in the tournament, completing a hat-trick of wins in the IPL 2025. The DC now sit at the top of the points table with six points and will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday, April 10 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
