Adelaide Striker’s spinner Lloyd Pope recorded figures of 3/21 to help his side register a 15-run win in Big Bash League 2024. Notably, on Friday, December 20, the Strikers were up against Melbourne Stars, in the match six of the Big Bash League 2024-25 at the Adelaide Oval on Friday. The Strikers, owing to a striking all-round bowling performance and a solid batting display, successfully defended their total of 165/6. The game saw Pope leading Strikers’ bowling attack, and guiding the side to a remarkable victory.
Strikers’ number three batter D’Arcy Short navigated his side past the 100-run mark by scoring 60 runs from 42 balls. The side had already faced the loss of openers Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald to Adam Milne and Glenn Maxwell respectively. However, D’Arcy came up with striking eight boundaries and two sixes before a blinder from Ben Duckett put an end to his innings.

During the game, the Strikers’ bowling attack was led by Lloyd Pope, who recorded 3/21 in four over. His performance was followed by that of Matthew Short (2/23) and Jamie Overton (2/44) also played a key role. On the other hand, Henry Thornton recorded 1/16 was economical throughout his spell. The action came down to the final over, but Strikers’ bowlers kept themselves calm and restricted their rivals to 1150/9 in 20 overs.
Pope was adjudged Player of the Match, and during the presentation ceremony, he said, “Good to get the first one (win) on the board. Everyone chipped in really well on a tough wicket and I think D Arcy batted really well. Just tried to do the basics right and that is what Boyce and I chatted about. Really happy to put a performance on the board in front of the home ground. I am just trying to keep it even (talking about the social media buzz) and take it as it comes.”
