On Friday, April 4, during Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) close 12-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, star LSG and Australian batter Mitchell Marsh set a unique record. Coming into the game on the back of some prolific hitting, Marsh scored 60 runs off 31 balls during his stay in the middle.

With his porwerful knock at the top, along with stitching a crucial partnership with Aiden Markram, Marsh also etched his name in IPL record books as he became the first batter in the tournament history to face 30 balls in the six-over powerplay. His quickfire start helped LSG post 69 without a loss of any wicket in the powerplay overs.

Mitchell Marsh surpasses Shikhar Dhawan to face most balls in powerplay overs in IPL history

During his crucial knock, he surpassed former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, who previously held the record to play 29 deliveries in the powerplay. Moreover, the Aussie all-rounder also became the only second batter from the franchise to score a half-century inside the powerplay, following Kyle Mayers’ twin efforst in the 2023 edition of the cash-rich league.

While Marsh brought up his third fifty-plus score in only his fourth game of the season, his inning was laced with nine fours and two sixes. With a 31-ball 60, Marsh now sits third in the race of the leading run-scorer with 184 runs, after teammates Nicholas Pooran (201) and GT's Sai Sudharsan (186).
