On Friday, January 3, Punjab opener Prabhsimran Singh scored third consecutive hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Hyderabad, to help his team consolidate their position on top of Group C. The right-handed batter shared an opening stand of 196 runs with opening partner Abhishek Sharma within the first half of the innings, to play a key role in Punjab reaching 426/4 total in their allotted overs before they bundled out Hyderabad for 346 runs in 47.5 overs, to win by 80 runs.

After Hyderabad captain Tilak Varma won the toss and chose to bowl first, his team found themselves in the midst of a perfect storm created by the Punjab openers. Prabhsimran Singh and Abhishek Sharma matched each other stroke-for-stroke in their enterprising partnership of 196 runs, hitting fours and sixes at will, to set a perfect platform for Punjab to get their second consecutive total in excess of 400 runs in the VHT 2024-25.

Prabhsimran Singh scored 137 runs in 105 balls versus Hyderabad in VHT 2024-25

Following the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma on 93 off 72 with seven fours and six maximums, Prabhsimran Singh, who had already crossed the three-figure milestone, kept the momentum of Punjab innings going. He ended up scoring 137 runs in 105 balls with 20 fours and three sixes, following which the likes of Anmolpreet Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir, and Ramandeep Singh kept scoring at better than a run-a-ball, with the latter scoring a fifty, to ensure Punjab got up to 426/4 total.

In the run chase, the hopes of Hyderabad was alive until their young batter Nitish Reddy was at the crease, scoring 111 runs in 87 balls with 13 fours and four maximums, but after his dismissal, a flurry of wicket led to them being reduced to 229/7 in 33.3 overs. Tanay Thyjagarajan scored a fiery 74 in 42 balls with 14 fours and two maximums in the latter overs to reduce the margin of defeat for Hyderabad as they were eventually bowled out for 346 runs.

In other matches of the VHT 2024-25 earlier today, Karun Nair of Karnataka and Shreyas Iyer of Mumbai were in fantastic form with the bat as well, scoring yet another hundred in their latest outing on Friday, January 3.
