After winning the T20I series, New Zealand continued their winning run against Sri Lanka in the ODI format as well and took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in a three-match ODI series. The Kiwis won the second ODI by 113 runs at Seddon Park in Hamilton with players of the match Rachin Ravindra top scoring with 79(63) runs. Batting first, New Zealand posted 255/9 in 37 overs in a rain-affected encounter. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 142 runs in 30.2 overs.
Coming to bat after losing the toss, New Zealand lost their first wicket at the score of 31 runs in 4.5 overs with Will Young getting out after scoring 16 runs. After that, Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman put up a partnership of 112 runs for the second wicket. Chapman got out after scoring 62(52) runs hitting five fours and two sixes, while Ravindra top scored with 79 runs off 63 balls hitting nine fours and a maximum. Apart from that, Daryll Mitchell also scored a run-a-ball 38 runs as New Zealand reached the 250-run mark. For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theeshana scalped four wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga took two, while Asitha Fernando and Eshan Malinga scalped a wicket each.
New Zealand bowlers thrash Sri Lanka in second ODI
Chasing the winning target, Sri Lanka had a disastrous start as they lost four wickets for just 22 runs in 4.4 overs. After that, Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage added 57 runs for the fifth wickets. Liyanage got out after scoring 22(31) runs, while Mendis top scored for Sri Lanka with a knock of 64(66) runs hitting five fours and three sixes.
Apart from that, none of the other batter for Sri Lanka could play big knock as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 142 runs with 6.4 overs still remaining. For New Zealand, Will O’Rourke took three wickets, Jacob Dufffy scalped two, while skipper Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry and Nathan Smith scalped a wicket each.
