After winning the first ODI, the Indian women's cricket team had an eye on taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. In the second ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, left-arm spinner Radha Yadav took a four-wicket haul as India restricted New Zealand to 259/9 at the end of 50 overs. She also scored an impressive 48 off 64 with five fours, but India were unable to chase down the target, losing by 76 runs versus New Zealand.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand had a good start as Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer put up an opening partnership of 87 runs in 15.3 overs. Plimmer got out after scoring 41 runs off 50 balls, an innings which had six fours and a six. Following her dismissal, Lauren Down also lost her wicket cheaply at the score of three runs. A few overs later, Suzie Bates lost her wicket after a well-made 58(70) runs with eight fours.
Radha Yadav scores 48 off 64 in last ditch effort to save India from ODI defeat versus New Zealand
After New Zealand were reduced to 139/4, skipper Sophie Devine took charge of the innings along with Maddy Green (42 off 41) added 82 runs for the fifth wicket. Devine top scored with 79 runs off 86 balls, htting seven fours and a six. She was dismissed by Radha Yadav as the spinner took back-to-back two wickets in the penultimate over. Radha registered figures of 4/69 at the end of her 10-over spell.
Jess Kerr gave finishing touches to the New Zealand innings as they finished on 259/9 after 50 overs. Apart from that Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma took two wickets, while Saima Thakor and Priya Mishra scalped one each. Chasing the 260-run target, India didn’t get a great start as they lost three wickets inside the first five overs before being reduced to 108/8 in 27 overs. It led to Radha Yadav (48 off 64) stitching together a 70-run stand for the ninth wicket with Saima Thakor before being bowled out for 183 runs in 47.1 overs.
