Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad played a captain’s knock in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 fixture against Services at MCA Cricket Ground in Mumbai. Chasing a target of 205 runs, Gaikwad smashed a 57-ball hundred as Maharashtra defeated Services by nine wickets in match number 27 of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, registering their second consecutive win of the season.
Batting first, Services lost their first wicket at the score of 17 runs in 2.5 overs. After that, skipper Mohit Ahlawat played a captain’s knock of 61 runs off 64 balls hitting 10 boundaries, as Services bowled out for 204 runs in 48 overs. For Maharashtra, Pradeep Dadhe and Satyajeet Bacchav took three wickets each. Apart from that, Mukesh Chaudhary scalped two wickets, while Rajneesh Gurbani and Azim Kazi took a wicket each.
Ruturaj Gaikwad smashes fiery ton to take Maharashtra home
Coming to chase the winning target, Maharashtra got a flying start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Om Bhosale added 86 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs. Bhosale got out after scoring 24(20) runs with two fours and as many sixes. After that, Gaikwad took charge of the innings as the Maharashtra skipper smashed the Services bowlers throughout the innings and went on to complete his century in just 57 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 148 runs off 74 balls smashing 16 fours and 11 sixes. Along with him, Siddhesh Veer also scored an unbeaten 22*(28) runs as Maharashtra chased the target in just 20.2 overs losing just one wicket. Poonam Poonia was the only wicket-taker for Services. This was Maharashtra’s second consecutive win the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as they moved to the top of the points table in group B. They will now face Meghalaya at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on December 26.
