After suffering defeats in three matches consecutively, West Indies already lost the five-match home T20I series against England. However, the hosts showed tremendous performance in the fourth T20I at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia, to get their first win of the series. Chasing a target of 219 runs, Shai Hope and Evin Lewis shone with fiery knocks as West Indies took the series to 1-3 with one game remaining.
Batting first after losing the toss, England posted a mammoth 218/5 total in their 20 overs. Jacob Bethell top scored with an unbeaten 62*(32) runs, hitting four fours and five sixes. Apart from that, Phil Salt also scored 55 off 35 balls, while skipper Jos Buttler (38 off 23), Will jacks (25 off 12), and Sam Curran (24 off 13) played key roles as England went way past 200 runs in their innings. For West Indies, Gudakesh Motie took two wickets, while Alzarri Joseph and Roston Chases scalped a wicket each.
Shai Hope and Evin Lewis gave West Indies fiery start in big run chase vs England
Coming to chase a big target of 219 runs, West Indies got a fiery start as Shai Hope and Evin Lewis put up an opening partnership of 136 runs in just 9.1 overs before both the openers lost their wickets in consecutive deliveries. Lewis was the first batter to get out after scoring 68 runs off 31 balls, hitting four fours and seven sixes, while Hope scored 54 off 24 with seven fours and three sixes. After that, skipper Rovman Powell took charge of the innings with a knock of 38(23) runs, smashing two fours and three sixes.
Apart from that, Sherfane Rutherford also remained unbeaten on 29*(17) runs, hitting three sixes as West Indies chased the target in just 19 overs with five wickets in hand. For England, Rehan Ahmed scalped three wickets, while John Turner put one in his bag. Despite the loss, England have already taken 3-1 lead in the five match series. The fifth T20I will be played in Saint Lucia on Sunday, November 17.
