Pakistan got a strong start against England on day 1 of the ongoing first Test against England at Multan Cricket Stadium. The hosts are scheduled to take on England for a three-match Test series with the first two matches taking place in Multan, while the third Test is scheduled to be played Rawalpindi. The Test series began with captain’s knock from Pakistan skipper Shan Masood who scored 151(177) on day one as Pakistan are on their way to post a big total against England in their first innings.
Notably, Pakistan aren’t having a great time in home Tests in recent years, and have lost four out of the last five Test series at home, with one series ending in a draw. Pakistan recently suffered a major setback as they lost the Test series against Bangladesh by 0-2. Now, coming to face a more fancied England cricket team, Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood took the charge with the bat for Pakistan on day one of the first Test.
Shan Masood - Abdullah Shafique put up 253-run partnership on day one of first Test vs England
Coming to bat after winning the toss on day one of the Multan Test, Pakistan didn’t get a great start as they lost their first wicket at the score of 8 runs in 3.4 overs, with Saim Ayub getting out after scoring just 4(10) runs. After that, opening batter Abdullah Shafique and skipper Masood controlled the Pakistan’s innings, as the duo added 253 runs before the fall of second wicket.
Abdullah Shafique bought up his fifth Test hundred while batting alongside his captain. The right-hander got out after scoring 102 runs off 184 balls hitting 10 fours and two sixes. On the other hand, Shan Masood batted with a higher strike-rate before getting dismissed on 151 runs off 177 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. Currently, Saud Shakeel is batting alongside night-watchman Naseem Shah at the crease as Pakistan have crossed 300 runs losing four wickets at the close of play on day one of the first Test match.
