Star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana, currently participating in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024, pulled off an absolute stunner in Adelaide Strikers Women’s match against Perth Scorchers. Mandhana’s catch put an end to Carly Leeson’s knock in the match No. 32 of the league at the Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide on Tuesday, November 19. The game saw the Strikers registering a 30-run win over their counterparts.

The game saw the Scorchers getting off to a disappointing start in their chase of 170. The side lost four wickets at just 17 runs. Skipper Sophie Devine along with Brooke Halliday combined for a 52-run partnership off 55 balls for the fifth wicket. Devine came up with 35 runs off 31 balls while Halliday contributed 47 runs off 44 balls. Despite their several efforts, Scorchers fell short by 30 runs and ended up on the losing side of the match.

Smriti Mandhana pulls off brilliant dive catch to dismiss Carly Leeson

The 28-year-old star batter displayed tremendous athleticism and helped her side dismiss Leeson. On the first ball of the 15th over of Scorchers’ chase, Leeson tried to play an inside-out shot over the covers off an Amanda-Jade Wellington delivery. However, the batter mistimed it and managed to spoon it in the air.

Mandhana, who was positioned at mid-off, ran backwards and while keeping her eyes on the ball, pulled off a dive while grabbing the ball with both hands. Not only this, but apart from Leeson’s catch, Mandhana also took the catch of Beth Mooney, giving Zimbabwe’s Anesu Mushangwe her first wicket. Later, she also helped Tahila McGrath dismiss Mikayla Hinkley in the 14th over.
