After securing the T20I series 2-1, India women's cricket team continued their domination against West Indies by winning the first ODI of a three-match series by 211 runs at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. For India, Smriti Mandhana shone with her third consecutive 50-plus score in the ODI format. Along with this, Mandhana also registered her sixth straight 50-plus score in the limited-overs cricket.
Batting first, India posted 314 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs. In reply, West Indies were bowled out for 103 runs in 26.2 overs. Player of the match Renuka Singh Thakur registered figures of 5/29 as India dominated with the ball. India are now 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series.
Smriti Mandhana becomes leading run-scorer in calendar year
With her 91-run knock in the first ODI against West Indies, Smriti Mandhana has now become the leading run-scorer in the calendar year in women’s cricket across all formats of the games. The left-hander has amassed 1602 runs in the year so far. She has surpassed South Africa Laura Wolvaadrt, who is now at the second spot with 1593 runs in 2024, while England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt has scored 1346 runs in 2024 across all formats.
Talking about the match, India posted 314/9 along with Smriti Mandhana top scoring with 91(102) runs. Along with that, Pratika Rawal (40 off 69), Harleen Deol (44 off 50), and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (34 off 23) also contributed with their bat. In their defense of the total, Renuka Singh shone with her maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket as India bowled West Indies for just 103 runs, to win by a mammoth 211-run margin.
