After Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs scored tons on day one, all-rounder Wiaan Mulder went on to become the third first-time centurion for South Africa on day two of the second Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram. The right-hander scored an unbeaten 105(150) runs as South Africa posted 575/6dec in their first innings. For Bangladesh, Tajmul Islam also shone with a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Batting first, Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs put up a partnership of 201 runs for the second wicket. Zorzi top scored with 177 runs off 269 balls after hitting 12 fours and four sixes, Stubbs scored 106 runs off 198 balls with six fours and three sixes. David Bedingham also scored a half-century, whistling his way to 59 runs off 78 balls. After that, Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy controlled the innings on day two.
Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy add 152 runs for seventh wicket
After South Africa lost six wickets for 423 runs, Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy took charge of the innings as the duo put up an unbeaten partnership of 152 runs for the seventh wicket before skipper Aiden Markram decided to call off the innings. Mulder, who notched up his first Test hundred, remained unbeaten on 105 runs off 150 balls with eight fours and four sixes, while Muthusamy scored 68*(75) runs after hitting five fours and two sixes.
For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam took five wickets while conceding 198 runs, while Nahid Rana put one wicket in his bag. Coming to bat, Bangladesh didn’t get a good start lost four wickets early. The hosts were at 38/4 by the end of day two with Mominul Haque and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto at the crease, looking to take Bangladesh out of troubled waters.
