Skipper Will Sutherland led from the front after a disastrous start as Melbourne Renegades defeated Perth Scorchers by four wickets in match number 26 of the 2024-25 Big Bash League at Perth Stadium. In a low-scoring game, Ashton Agar scored an unbeaten half-century as Perth Scorchers posted 147/8 in their 20 overs. After that, the Scorchers bowlers also gave a tough fight to Melbourne Renegades by taking four wickets early while defending a low target. However, Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers put up a match-winning partnership as Renegades chased the target in 19.4 overs losing six wickets. 

Batting first, Aaron Hardie and Finn Allen added 25 runs for the first wicket in 2.4 overs. Allen got out after scoring 19(12) with two fours and a six, while Hardie scored a run-a-ball 34 runs hitting three boundaries. After that, the Scorchers suffered a batting collapse in the middle-order and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. After that, Ashton Agar took charge of the innings and remained unbeaten by scoring 51*(30) runs hitting one four and four sixes as Perth Scorchers crossed 140 runs. For Melbourne Renegades, Adam Zampa took three scalps, Will Sutherland and Tog Rogers scalped two wickets each while Kane Richardson put one in his bag.

Will Sutherland, Tom Rogers recover Melbourne Renegades to victory after poor start

Chasing the winning target, Melbourne Renegades had a disastrous start as they lost two wickets in the very first over without any run on board. The top-order completely failed as Renegades lost five wickets for 44 runs inside 10 overs with opener Marcus Harris scoring 21(26) runs. After that, skipper Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers took charge of the innings and turned the match around for Renegades. 

Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers put up an match changing partnership of 92 runs for the sixth wicket. Sutherland top scored with 70(45) hitting five fours and three sixes, while Rogers ended up finishing the game for Melbourne Renegades with his unbeaten 49*(31) hitting four fours and three sixes. For Perth Scorchers, Jason Behrendorff, Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris scalped 2-2 wickets each.
