Wriddhiman Saha, the former Indian wicket-keeper batter, received a guard of honour from his Bengal teammates during their ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash against Punjab at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The cherished moment happened on the first day of the match, and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) also felicitated Wriddhiman Saha, while on day two, Punjab players also gave him a guard of honour of their own when he walked out to bat.

Notably, Wriddhiman Saha, 40, had announced his decision to retire from all forms of cricket during the ongoing Ranji Trophy season with Bengal on November 3, 2024 in a post on the social media platform X. He had contemplated retirement from cricket much earlier, but it led to his wife and the former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly convincing him to continue playing for his state team for one more season.

Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and fans: Wriddhiman Saha

At the close of day one of the Ranji Trophy clash, Wriddhiman Saha took to his official Instagram account, to reflect on the guard of honour from his Bengal teammates and the felicitation ceremony hosted by the CAB. He wrote, “An emotional and proud moment as I step onto the field for one last time! Honored to be felicitated by CAB President Snehasish Ganguly at Eden Gardens. Grateful for all the love, support, and memories over the years. Bengal cricket has been my home, and this journey has been nothing short of incredible. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and fans for being a part of it. Here’s to one final match!”Moreover, after receiving a guard of honour from opposition Punjab earlier today, Wriddhiman Saha failed to open his account in eight balls as Gurnoor Brar got him nicked off through to the wicket-keeper Anmol Malhotra. Despite that, Bengal scored 343 runs in their first innings after bundling out Punjab for 191 runs, taking a first innings lead of 152 runs before reducing the visitors to 64/3 at stumps on day three.

Ahead of the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders reached out to Wriddhiman Saha with a coaching offer, but he turned it down.
