Premier League table leaders Manchester City have further consolidated their position at the peak of the points ladder as they defeated Tottenham Hotspurs 3-0 on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. The result has extended their winning run to 15 games across competitions and taken them to 11 wins in a row in the league.
Ilkay Gundogan's second-half brace after Rodrigo's 23rd-minute penalty which had put City in the lead proved more than enough for City clinch the three points. In addition, Raheem Sterling also came close to scoring in the finishing minutes as City looked their lethal best and appear favourites to clinch the title for the third time in four years. Manchester United can close the gap to five points if they beat low-ranked West Bromwich Albion on Sunday but City will still hold a game in hand to strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, it was yet again a disappointing performance for the Spurs under Jose Mourinho who looked to be no match for City. Spurs have now lost five of their previous six matches in all competitions and predicting by their performances and Mourinho's rifts with Gareth Bale and Dele Alli, the season might well turn out to be a forgettable one for them.
While they were leading the table when they defeated City in the side's previous meeting in November, it has been a contrasting journey for the two teams ever since. While City have taken 41 points from a possible 45 to take what could be a decisive lead in the season, Spurs went on to collect 16 points in 14 games.
On current form though, it looks unlikely that Spurs would be able to challenge Pep Guardiola's City at Wembley when these sides meet again for in the Carabao Cup final on April 25.
