President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, August 14, met India’s contingent which participated in the recently-concluded Olympics 2024 held in Paris, France. The President congratulated the athletes for their efforts they put in during the Summer Games 2024. Notably, India had sent a contingent of 117 athletes to the Olympics held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11. Among those present were star shooter Manu Bhaker, who recorded history by becoming first Indian to win two Olympic medals in the same edition post independence. 

Not only this, but Indian hockey’s legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh along with captain Harmanpreet Singh and several other members of the Indian hockey team were also present during the event. Notably, the Indian hockey team had defeated Spain 2-1 to win their second consecutive bronze medal at Paris 2024. Along with this, Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling bronze medallist, Swapnil Kusale, 50m rifle 3P bronze medallist, Lakshya Sen, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu were also present in the event. 

The Rashtrapati Bhavan in a post on X shared some pictures from the event and said, “President Droupadi Murmu met the Indian Contingent of the Paris Olympics 2024 at Ganatantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the players for their excellent efforts and great performance; and said that they are a source of inspiration for all the youth of the country, especially the young players.” 

Proud to be Indian: PR Sreejesh gets rousing reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan 

Indian hockey’s veteran goalkeeper  PR Sreejesh  who brought down curtains on his career at Paris Olympics 2024, got a rousing reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He thanked the government for their efforts and expressed his pride in being an Indian. In his address, Sreejesh said, “It was a special tournament for us as we won bronze in the previous Tokyo Olympics 2024. We all wanted to upgrade our medal but unfortunately we lost against Germany in the semi-final. We gave everything and wanted to return to India with something,” 

He added, “The medal was not possible without the effort of the Government of India and the Indian Olympic Association who provided everything to prepare us. I can proudly say that we are proud to be Indian.”
