T20 World Cup 2024 winning captain, Rohit Sharma took to social media to pen a heartfelt post for the outgoing Head Coach and former India cricketer Rahul Dravid. Dravid, who took over the reigns from former India cricketer Ravi Shastri after India’s disappointing outing at the 2021 T20 World Cup.
During his tenure, which began in November 2021, Dravid took India to World Test Championship Final in 2023 and ODI World Cup Final in the same year. However, he ended his campaign with T20 World Cup 2024 victory, ending India’s 17-year long wait for the T20 title and 11-year drought of ICC trophy. With his tenure, Rohit Sharma also called curtains to his T20I curtain, alongside Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
Days after the title triumph and the celebrations around, captain Rohit Sharma took to Instagram to share a tribute post for Dravid. “Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I’m not sure I ever will so here’s my attempt,” Rohit Sharma began.
Writing how he has looked up to Dravid since his childhood, while the latter captained the side, Rohit further added, “Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished.”
While he might have heaped praise of the “Wall of Indian cricket”, he also revealed that how his wife, Ritika Sajdeh calls Dravid as Rohit’s “work wife”. “My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too 😊” he continued.
“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend 🫡”, Rohit concluded, summing up his experience in an elaborated and well captioned post, accompanied by pictures from their on and off-the field moments.
