After months of wait, the biggest Kabaddi tournament in the world, the Pro Kabaddi League is set to return for its ninth season on 7 October. PKL season 9 will kick off in Bangalore, featuring 12 teams, with defending champions Dabang Delhi K.C. taking on former champions U Mumba in the opening fixture.
Along with the battle of the champions, the home team Bengaluru Bulls will face off the Telugu Titans in a Southern Derby. Similarly, the inaugural champions of the Pro Kabaddi League Jaipur Pink Panthers will lock horns against the UP Yoddhas in the third game of the opening day.
But the excitement for the new PKL season has been there from a few months now thanks to an entering auction. This year’s PKL auction saw some incredible new records and some shocking names that remained unsold. The biggest news emerging from the auction was Pawan Sehrawat, who became the most expensive player in the history of the tournament.
This massive prize tag was justified as Sehrawat registered a record 320 points, 304 of them were raid points and topped the charts for the third season running. He was picked for two crores and twenty-six lakh by the Tamil Thalaivas. Whereas the Iranian defender Fazel became the most expensive foreign player in PKL history as he was picked up by the Puneri Paltan for a massive prize of INR 1.38 crore.
