Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is in serious condition after his horseriding accident and is currently in intensive care. Paris Saint Germain has cancelled their Ligue 1 2022-23 title celebrations out of respect for the goalkeeper. PSG clinched the title with a 1-1 draw against Strasbourg.
PSG took the decision to cancel their annual gala dinner out of respect for Rico and his family. PSG coach Christoph Galtier said that there will be no immediate title celebrations out of respect for their player. The coach wished for the 29-year-old’s recovery and mentioned that the whole squad is affected by his situation.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi assured the player’s family of full support from the club as he said, "The current situation demands our full attention and forces us to forgo our traditional gala. The entire Paris Saint-Germain family is deeply affected by the tragedy affecting Sergio Rico and his loved ones. On behalf of all the club's teams, I want to assure them of our full support and heartfelt sympathy during this ordeal."
As the PSG players recover from the situation they will send Rico a message of support to their team-mate once the final whistle blows in their last league game and last game of the season against Clermont Foot on Saturday night. The game will also be the last for Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos in a PSG shirt.
