It is going to be a moment of history for Pune city as the Billie Jean King Cup is scheduled to take place here in 2025. The prestigious tournament has made its return in Ahmedabad after 25 years. The Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Group-1 will take place at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune from April 8 to April 12.
Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) has also kickstarted preparation for the successful conduction of the tournament. “After the success of the L&T Mumbai Open WTA and the PMRDA MahaOpen ATP Challenger, MSLTA, in association with AITA and PMDTA, is thrilled to secure another high-level event,” MSLTA Secretary said as quoted in Revsportz.
Ankita Raina to lead Indian singles team in Billie Jean King Cup 2025
Total six teams will take part in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup, including the likes of New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, Korea, Thailand, and hosts India. The tournament will be played in the round-robin format, where each tie will consist of singles game followed by the doubles fixture.
Talking about the hosts, Ankita Raina will be seen leading the Indian team in the Billie Jean King Cup. The Indian squad includes Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, and Vaidehi Chaudhar with all players ranked between 300 and 358 in singles. Apart from that, Vishal Uppal will lead India doubles team along with Prarthana Thombare, who finished as the runners-up in the WTA Mumbai Open. India will be looking to have a memorable campaign with the support of their home crowd.
