Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen withdrew from the Thailand Open Super 500 tournament ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. Sen was a part of India’s squad at the Thomas Cup 2024, and Sindhu had opted out of the Uber Cup 2024. The shuttlers are taking a leave of absence to focus on their preparations for the upcoming edition of the marquee tournament.
The World Tour returns with the Thailand Open which will begin from May 14 to May 19. The tournament will see the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty leading the Indian contingent. They will kick off their campaign against Malaysia’s Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Ta Wee Kiong, ranked world number 71. Apart from them, Vimalraj Annadurai and Mauryan Kathiravan are the other men’s doubles duo playing in the qualifiers.
In the men’s singles category, HS Prannoy, Kirn George, and Satish Kumar Karunakaran will represent India. Prannoy will open his campaign against a qualifier whereas Kiran is all set to face Weng Hong Yang of China in his opening clash. In the women’s category, Malvika Bansod. Ashmita Chaliha, Samiya Imag Farooqui, Aakarshi Kashyap, and Unnati Hooda will participate in singles.
On the other hand, the first round of the women’s mixed doubles match will see two Indian duos, B Sumeeth Reddy-N Sikki Reddy and Satish Kumar-Aadya Variyath.
