The multi-time Olympics and World Championships medalist from India, PV Sindhu won a marathon clash against Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam to reach the semi-final of the Arctic Open Super 500 in Vantaa, Finland, on Friday, October 14. The 28-year-old had to make a comeback after being a game down, to clinch victory in the quarter final by 20-22, 22-20, 21-18 in around 90 minutes.

The first game of this pulsating contest saw PV Sindhu, the world number 13, race to an 11-4 lead at the break, but Thuy Linh Nguyen, the world number 26, made a fightback from 9-16 down to win it by 22-20. In the second game, the Indian shuttler won six straight points to enter the break in the lead, but then, her Vietnamese opponent got the score 18-14 in her favour, before she lost the momentum to concede the game by 20-22.
The world champion from 2019, found herself with an 11-8 lead at the break in the third and deciding game, but once again, Thuy Linh Nguyen made her way back into the match at 13-13. At the very end, she was 20-15 up, but her Vietnamese opponent saved three match points, before the Indian shuttler finished it off, with a huge roar, clinching the third and deciding game.
With this tough win, PV Sindhu reached the fourth semi-final on the BWF World Tour in the 2023 season. The 28-year-old has been a finalist at the Spain Masters, while, at the Malaysia Masters and Canada Open, she was in the top four.
In the semi-final of the Arctic Open Super 500, PV Sindhu will be going head-to-head against world number 11 Wang Zhi Yi of China, against whom she has won two matches in two. The other semi-final of the tournament will have Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand taking on Han Yue of China.
