The table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been handed a major blow with their wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz leaving the camp midway through IPL 2024. The Afghanistan international, who is currently plying his trade for the two-time champions KKR, however confirmed that he will return after a “short break”.

However, he did not notify on the time, but reports reveal that he will return before the IPL 2024 playoffs, which are scheduled to kickstart from May 21 (Tuesday). “After a short break from IPL due to mother’s illness, I will join my kkr family very soon, thanks for all messages and prayers, alhumdulillah she is feeling better now thanks 🙏 ❤️” Gurbaz captioned a post on X.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side are currently comfortably sitting at the top of the points table with 16 points from eight wins in 11 matches. However, they have virtually sealed a place in the playoffs along with Rajasthan Royals, but a win will surely add the Q of qualified teams in front of their name.

Speaking of the Afghan wicketkeeper-batter, Gurbaz hasn’t featured in any match for Kolkata. However, the side still has three games left in the league stage, Rahmanullah Gurbaz is likely to get a chance in the playoffs stage with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) calling their players to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
