On Monday, August 21, Team India announced its 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The continental tournament which will take place in the 50-over format from August 30 to September 17 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, saw some surprise inclusions as well as omissions.

Amid many was that of Yuzvendra Chahal.  The 33-year-old who first missed the 2021 T20 World Cup, followed by not getting a single game in the 2022 T20 World Cup, later took to social media to share a cryptic tweet which several said seemed to have the inspiration for Rohit’s tweet from 2018.

In a video going viral on social media, the selector of Team India squad for 2011 World Cup opened up on Rohit Sharma’s snub. In an exclusive interview with RevSportz, Raja Venkat revealed that Rohit Sharma was in the scheme of things for the World Cup, but the skipper at that time, MS Dhoni wanted Piyush Chawla.

“Rohit Sharma was very much in the scheme of things. 1-14 everything was accepted. No. 15 we suggested the name of Rohit Sharma. Gary Kristen felt that it was a perfect selection. But the captain wanted a change there, he wanted Piyush Chawla instead of Rohit Sharma,” Venkat said.
