Australian leg-spinner and Rajasthan Royals star Adam Zampa has pulled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season. The 17th edition of the world's biggest T20 franchise tournament has seen several key overseas players withdraw for various personal and fitness-related reasons, especially with the T20 World Cup in June.
The inaugural IPL champions retained Adam Zampa ahead of December's auction in Dubai on a contract worth INR 1.5 crore after a decent 2023 season. Zampa played six times for RR in the 2023 season and scalped eight wickets at 23.50 with an economy rate of 8.54. His best performance came against Chennai Super King, where he picked up 3 for 22 in a home victory.
Adam Zampa withdraws from IPL 2024
But on the eve of the season opener, ESPNcricinfo confirmed that he will not be part of the IPL 2024. With this development, the Royals will be without two key bowling options as Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was ruled out of the season.
The Indian speedster injured his quadriceps while playing for Karnataka in their Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Gujarat. Hence on February 23, 2024, Krishna underwent surgery on his is left proximal quadriceps tendon and currently in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Sangakkara on possible Prasidh Krishna replacement
When asked by SportsTiger about a possible replacement for Prasidh Krishna, Kumar Sangakkara revealed that the team will focus on in-house options first and then look for options from the player pool. The former Sri Lankan captain said, "W e will wait and see and assess the options that we will have coming with us, ahead of the start of the season."
"Once we have a very good look at the options that are out there, we give eyes on them, then we can make a better-informed decision. So more often than not, we'll be looking first for a local option," he continued.
