Just days after the inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals (RR) confirmed former India cricketer and Head Coach, Rahul Dravid as their Head Coach ahead of the upcoming edition, the 2008 winners have also reinstated Sanju Samson as their skipper for the IPL 2025. The India and RR wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson will continue to lead the Royals in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
However, the franchise is yet to make an official announcement on the same, this update follows Rahul Dravid’s signing with the Royals. It is to be noted that in the last edition of the tournament, which was played in 2024, Sanju Samson led the Royals to the playoffs where they suffered a 36-run defeat against the SunRisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, who eventually finished as the runners-up.

Speaking in an interview with Star Sports earlier, RR captain, Sanju Samson recalled the old times when the former India cricketer was a part of the Royals leadership camp. The Indian keeper-batter recalled his first trails with the Royals where he was even asked a big question to play for the side in the IPL.
“Rahul Dravid told me ‘You are definitely doing something really great. Would like you to play for our team? It gave me a lot of confidence, coming from Rahul sir who is a legend. If someone like him says I am good enough then I am good enough’,” Sanju Samson stated.

Speaking of the major reunion set to happen in IPL 2025, while Dravid is set to take the role of the Head Coach, former Sri Lanka cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara will continue to serve as the Director of Cricket with Sanju Samson taking the helm. Moreover, reports have also stated that former India batter and coach, Vikram Rathour is set to join RR as assistant coach.
