Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer came up with an aggressive double century in the Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Odisha. In the game against Odisha at the MCA Ground, Iyer recorded Mumbai’s first double hundred in nine years and put the side in the driving seat. The game saw Odisha skipper Govinda Poddar winning the toss and inviting the rivals to bat first. Mumbai got off to a disastrous start and lost opener Ayush Mhatre cheaply for 18 runs.

However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Siddhesh Lad took the control and helped the side get some stability. Raghuvanshi missed his well-deserved century and went back to the pavilion after scoring 92 runs off 124 balls. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane was forced to return without opening his account. However, Shreyas Iyer stood tall and bailed home favourites out of trouble.

Shreyas Iyer record third first-class double hundred in Ranji Trophy match against Odisha

Shreyas Iyer built a crucial mammoth fourth-wicket stand with Lad as both cricketers reached their respective milestones. Iyer reached the landmark of double century with a boundary against Debabrata Pradhan off the 201st ball he faced. The batter hit 21 fours and eight maximums against the rival bowling lineup to record his third First-Class double hundred. Not only this, but right after he scored his double century, Iyer smashed another four off Pradhan to register his highest FC score.

He surpassed his previous highest record of 202 which he had scored for India A against Australia in 2017. This was Iyer’s second Ranji Trophy double hundred, with the first coming in October 2015.
