In the fifth contest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), the former’s spinner Rashid Khan broke into record books for becoming the third-fastest bowler in the league to pick up 150 wickets. Rashid scalped opener Priyansh Arya’s wicket to record the new milestone. In the game, PBKS batters took GT bowlers to the cleaners and delivered a mammoth target of 244 runs to the hosts. Rashid was also not spared in tough bowling conditions as the star Afghanistan player splurged 48 runs in his four-over spell and got the only wicket of Priyansh. His economy was 12.00 in the game.
In GT’s disappointing loss, Rashid’s fans got something to cheer up. He claimed 150 wickets in 122 matches which places him above MI’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is holding the fourth spot on the list of fastest bowlers to take 150 wickets in the league. Bumrah achieved the similar numbers of wickets in 124 games. Yuzvendra Chahal and Lasith Malinga are holding the second and first positions respectively. Chahal hunted 150 batters in 118 outings while Malinga did it in just 105 appearances.
Shreyas Iyer records his best batting figure in his maiden appearance for PBKS
Along with Rashid, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer also grabbed the eyeballs for notching up his best IPL score of an unbeaten 97 off 42. Appearing for Punjab for the first time, the right-handed batter looked ruthless and took GT’s quality bowling attack to the cleaners.
Riding on his batting brilliance, Punjab posted a humongous total of 243/5 in their 20 overs. Iyer also got the player of the match (POTM) for his magnificent innings. Besides batting, the 30-year-old also looked confident as a captain. Punjab will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 1.
