Although, Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has delivered many notable match-winning spells for Team India, the 36-year-old will fondly remember the match of October 23 (Sunday) against traditional arch-rivals Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Stadium in Melbourne. When India needed just two runs off two deliveries in the final over of the match, veteran finisher Dinesh Karthik got stumped which brought Ashwin in the middle.
While more than billions of cricket fans were biting their nails and praying for their respective team, R Ashwin had the responsibility to finish the match. The Indian off spinner recently revealed that what he would have done if the final delivery had hit his pad.
"The only thing I would have done had the ball hit my pad, was to go back in the dressing room, pick my Twitter and tweet 'Thanks a lot, it was a wonderful cricketing career (laughs)." While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin also revealed that he cursed Dinesh Karthik for getting out in that situation, leaving him with the hard task of scoring 2 runs off the last ball.
"As I walked into bat, I cursed Dinesh Karthik for a second and then later though, 'No, we still have time, let us do what were here for.' It seemed like I was walking for ages to get to the pitch,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. He further shared that dynamic Indian batter Virat Kohli, who played an innings of ages, told him so many things but Ashwin though of only one thing.
“God has given you so much today. So how will he ever let me down? So at least for you, won’t let me get these runs?” See the ball, then place it in a vacant space and just run, this is what I thought to myself." The veteran off spinner did exactly what he thought as he lifted the delivery over the fielder's head to win India the match.
