In what comes as a big news from the Indian cricket circuit, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 with a knee injury. While he had earlier only been ruled out of Asia Cup 2022, a PTI report has now confirmed that Jadeja will have to undergo a surgery which has ruled him out of the ICC event set to happen in Australia.

While Axar Patel has been named as a replacement for Jadeja in the Asia Cup 2022, it remains to be seen who makes the cut for the T20 World Cup, if indeed Jadeja is not on the flight to Australia.

"Jadeja's right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA's medical team, one can't put a timeline on his imminent international comeback," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Having said that, coach Rahul Dravid has refused to rule Jadeja out of the ICC event as yet. In a press conference ahead of Team India's Super Four match against Pakistan, Dravid said:  “I don't want to rule Jadeja out of the World Cup yet. Let's see how he goes in the six-eight weeks going into the T20 World Cup. It's part of every sportsperson's life.”

“It's part of sports. People get injured. It's part of our job to try and manage them, manage how it goes,” he added.

While Dravid's remark did not throw any light on the nature of Jadeja's knee injury, if indeed the southpaw has to go under the knife, it will at least take him 2-3 months to recover completely which will imply him having to miss the T20 World Cup.
