Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is set to be ruled out for at least two weeks because of a major injury. Modric left the game against Girona in a lot of agony after requesting a change in the 63rd minute. As the Croatian left the field he was attended to by physiotherapists, who were seen applying ice to the injured area while he watched the closing minutes from the bench.
Further medical examinations on Wednesday confirmed that he is suffering a hamstring injury. The club announced on Friday that the Croatian footballer had an injury to the back of his left thigh, but did not declare an estimate for how long he will require to recover from the injury. His status for the first leg of the Champions League Semi-finals against Manchester City is ‘doubtful’ at this point.
Modric will also miss Madrid's next two La Liga games, which are against Almera at home on Saturday and Real Sociedad away on Tuesday. If the projection of him missing two weeks of activity is right, he will be eligible for the match against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday 13 May. The exact date of his comeback cannot be predicted, as the hamstring injury may take more time than usual to recover.
Real Madrid managed Carlo Ancelotti also addressed Modic's injury and expressed, "Luka Modrić is injured. We don't know when he will be back, we will see for the Copa del Rey final — we don’t know. We're sad, I hope he will return very soon”.
