On Monday, February 9, the Real Madrid team bus carrying their players to a hotel in downtown Leipzig was reportedly involved in an accident, colliding with a white Toyota on the A4 motorway between Eichelborn and Nohra. The Galacticos travelled to Germany to play their UCL round of 16 first leg against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.
As per the report from the German newspaper BILD, there was a strike at the Leipzig airport, which led to a change in the travel plans of Real Madrid. They landed in Erfurt on Monday morning before embarking on a journey to make up the remaining 100 miles to Leipzig on a coach.
“On the A4 motorway, between Eichelborn and Nohra, a white Toyota suffered a collision with the Madrid team bus. The driver of the car overlooked the bus while changing lanes and the exterior mirror broke. The Toyota Avensis was damaged by a value of about 3,000 euros. The extent of the damage suffered by the Real bus is still not clear. After a brief stop, fortunately, all those involved continued without suffering any accident,” BILD explained.
Marca also reported about the accident, stating that the Real Madrid players and the technical staff didn’t feel the collision from the white Toyota, and they were able to continue their journey without any issues. Real Madrid reportedly told the Spanish newspaper about the accident, “A fan who, because he was filming the bus in his car, got lost. The steering wheel went and it bounced. We didn't notice. The people who came in buses behind us saw it.”
Real Madrid arrived in Germany on the back of a very important 4-0 win against their nearest title rivals Girona at home on the weekend. They are leading the La Liga standings by five points, while their arch enemy in Barcelona are 10 points behind them.
