Former India cricketer Suresh Raina came up with a savage reply to a Pakistan i reporter who tried to mock him using Shahid Afridi’s name. The journalist tried to take a dig at Raina by saying that Afridi is the ICC Ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2024, while he is not. It all started when the Indian cricketer-turned-commentator gave a hilarious reply when asked if he would take a U-turn from retirement. The incident took place during the Qualifier 1 between Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad on May 21.
Raina is a part of the Hindi commentary panel of Jio Cinema and during the game, former India opener Aakash Chopra asked him if he is planning to come back from his retirement since he is just 37 years old. Raina, who is always in his jolly-self came up with a hilarious reply and said, “Suresh Raina hoon, Shahid Afridi nahi (I’m Suresh Raina, not Shahid Afridi)”. The Indian referred to Afridi’s multiple retirements and left everyone in the commentary box in splits.
Remember the game at Mohali?: Suresh Raina’s savage reply to Pakistan journalist
Suresh Raina’s retirement remark on Shahid Afridi didn’t sit well with the Pakistani fans and they saw it as an insult to their former Pakistan cricket team captain. One Pakistan Dawn News journalist Imran Siddique took a dig at Raina and said that while Shahid Afridi was a T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador, Raina isn’t. He tweeted, “ICC has named Shahid Afridi as an ambassador for ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Hello Suresh Raina?”
The former CSK star got into his savage mode and reminded Pakistani fans of their 2011 World Cup semi-final defeat in Mohali. The game saw the hosts and eventual World Cup 2011 winners defeating Pakistan to reach the finale. Raina replied, “I’m not an ICC ambassador, but I have the 2011 World Cup at my house. Remember the game at Mohali? Hope it brings back some unforgettable memories for you.”
