Indian spinning wizard Ravichandran Ashwin issued clarification on his father’s statements. After Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket on December 18, his father, Ravichandran made some shocking claims. He alleged that the bowler was constantly being subjected to humiliation, which could be one of the reasons he decided to pull curtains on his legendary career mid Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Needless to say, his statement went viral like wildfire and created a stir among fans and the cricketing fraternity.
Ravichandran said, “(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation.” As soon as his statement went viral all over the internet, it garnered opinions from several experts and former players. However, the recently-retired bowler finally put an end to all of it by issuing a statement. The cricketer reposted a tweet of a popular Indian journalist and said that his father isn’t media trained. Not only this, but he also asked fans and media to forgive him and leave him alone.
The 38-year-old tweeted, “My dad isn’t media trained, dey father enna da ithelaam. I never thought you would follow this rich tradition of “dad statements”. Request you all to forgive him and leave him alone.”
He has faced quite a few things; he has bounced back like a phoenix: S Badrinath
Former India cricketer and Ashwin’s Chennai Super Kings teammate S Badrinath also spoke about his retirement. He told Star Sports Tamil, "I am shocked. I think, to be honest, he wasn't treated fairly. Rohit Sharma said he wanted to leave after the Perth Test match. He wanted to leave when Washington Sundar was played ahead of him. That tells you he was not happy.”
He added, "Imagine what he must have gone through. I know he has faced quite a few things. On many occasions, efforts were made to sideline him. But every time, he has bounced back like a phoenix bird. He has not been treated properly. I have closely followed his progress. Because he is from Tamil Nadu, he has faced this. If you ask me if it would have happened with a cricketer from any other state, I don't think so. I feel bad for Ashwin. This exit should not have been like this.”
