Former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan backed Kolkata Knight Riders’ batter Rinku Singh after his 26-run knock against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024. Both sides clashed during the 16th match at ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium on April 3, Wednesday. Kolkata skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and invited their counterparts to field first. During the match, Narine, who opened up with Philip Salt for Kolkata, played a brilliant knock to give the side a favourable start.
Rinku Singh came to bat at six for his side and smashed 26 runs in just eight deliveries. Singh hit one boundary and three maximums to contribute to the overall score of his side. The youngster couldn’t add much as he was later caught out by David Warner off Anrich Nortje’s delivery on the last ball of the 19th over.
However, his knock was enough to earn him praise from several fans and cricket pundits including the 2011 World Cup winner Yusuf Pathan. Pathan took to social media to back Singh for the 2024 T20I World Cup squad. The former Indian cricketer tweeted, “Rinku Singh should be in the T20 World Cup squad.” The 26-year-old has been one of the best finds of the Kolkata-based franchise in the cash-rich league.
Singh rose to prominence after his brilliant gameplay in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, where he finished several games and turned the tide of many matches for the two-time IPL winners. Singh went on to debut for the Indian team in the T20I series against Ireland in August 2023 and received his maiden ODI call during India’s series against South Africa in December 2023.
