The two of the most sought-after cricketers from the IPL 2023, Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal are reportedly up for selection in the Indian T20I team for the West Indies tour. The all-formats cricket series in the Caribbean is going to have two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, starting from July 12 of this year.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opening batter for the Rajasthan Royals, had a breakout season in the Indian Premier League this year. He played 14 matches in the recent edition of the tournament, amassing 625 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61. The 21-year-old cricketer, put together a hundred to savour at the Wankhede Stadium against the Mumbai Indians, scoring 124 runs in the process.

On the other side, Rinku Singh, the middle-order batter for Kolkata Knight Riders, in his first full season for the franchise, played 14 matches in the IPL group stage. He scored 474 runs in the 2023 edition of the league, at an average of 59.25 and strike-rate of 149.53, with four fifties. The 25-year-old cricketer also won a match for KKR in the tournament against Gujarat Titans, by smashing five sixes in the last five balls bowled by Yash Dayal in a pulsating finish.

With both batters having the best possible IPL seasons of anyone, it is only fair that BCCI selectors are considering Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh to be a part of the Indian T20I set up for the near and foreseeable future.

It has also been reported that Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings and Jitesh Sharma of Punjab Kings are likely to get a call-up in the T20I format for Team India. The CSK opener was instrumental in his team winning the Indian Premier League 2023, while the swashbuckling display of batsmanship from the PBKS wicket-keeper impressed one and all in the recent edition of the tournament.

Notably, the five-match T20I series between West Indies and India is going to begin on August 4 with the first encounter to be played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Shortly afterward, the action will move to Providence Stadium in Guyana with games on August 6 and 8. The T20I series will finish with the last two fixtures on August 12 and 13 at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, USA.
