With the  T20 World Cup 2024  fast approaching, the cricket boards are close to finalising their best 15 for the marquee events. The deadline for the squad announcement set to be May 1, the Ajit Agarkar-led Selection Committee and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have a tough decision to make.

With the national selectors likely to meet on May 1, are expected to re-appoint Rishabh Pant as India’s vice-captain. However, the members did not make an announcement regarding the same earlier, but his return to competitive cricket has proved to be a vital call to go in Rishabh Pant’s favour. Pant previously held the post of deputy before being forced into a long hiatus after surviving a near-fatal accident in December 2022.

However, the 26-year-old will be India’s first-choice wicketkeeper for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. But apart from Pant, Hardik Pandya is also one of the key contenders to don the vice-captain hat at the T20 World Cup. According to reports by Cricbuzz, the national selectors might still go with Pant over Hardik seeing the latter's failure to galvanise the Mumbai Indians side in the ongoing IPL.
